What is MOBOW?

MOBOW offers a new way to connect with your personal, social and professional contacts on your phone. All your contacts, pictures, messages and calendar events online can be managed right from your phone. MOBOW makes sure you always have the latest and most updated contact details for all your linked contacts on your phone. By extending the contact attributes on your phone to include presence, location, status, availability and preferred number to reach, MOBOW enables you and your fellow linked contacts to reach a higher level of communication. The aim is to avoid the clutter of asynchronous communication (phone tag). MOBOW gives you the ability to participate in your preferred social or professional networks, by updating all sites via one update on your phone. We currently have support for twitter and will be adding more as long as they have an open API. MOBOW also brings relevant information from multiple sites that your contacts may participate in and sorts the information in an easy to use manner. By providing you with an application that has the ability to tie into and receive information from any social network*, MOBOW gives you the ability to be in the know all the time and to be fully connected and share information with the people who matter the most.

How does MOBOW work?

MOBOW lets you sync your phone’s contacts, over-the-air, with our server and allows you to control it right from your phone or online via a desktop dashboard. Every time you add or change any information on your phone or on MOBOW, and sync, your MOBOW account is updated and other contact information is updated onto your phone.

Do I need any special software to use MOBOW?

Yes and No. There is a small client application that you download onto your phone. You can also use MOBOW on most mobile phones without installing software (We have not introduced this capability as yet). MOBOW plans to be compatible with almost any smartphone handset. (Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, iPhone, Palm, Android and Symbian)

Why should I link with others on MOBOW?

By connecting with others on MOBOW, you can get their updated contact details automatically synced to your phone. You can also share your content with other people that you are connected with, keep track of what they are up to and expand your own network as you get introduced to your friend’s friends.

How do I link with others on MOBOW?

You can connect with anyone who is willing to accept your request to connect. If the person you want to connect with is already on MOBOW, you can just go the approvals list on your phone and click the ‘approve’ button for that contact. If your friend is not yet on MOBOW, you can send him or her an invitation by selecting the contact, and then choosing the “invite via SMS” option. Once the invited person signs up to MOBOW, you are instantly connected.

How can I break an existing link?

If you break a link with a linked person, then you no longer have the automatic updates from that other person. The other person also will not get updates from you. Today you can do it via the portal site on your account page.

What does the blog section do?

The blog section allows you to send small messages that to your Contacts. The other users of MOBOW will receive these updates on their phones the next time they sync. Note we have also included the integration to twitter which allows you to update your twitter account as well. We plan to introduce other third party sites in the near future as well.

How do I add people to the linked list of friends on my MOBOW account?

You can send an invite to those contacts that matter the most to you and as soon as they install MOBOW on their phones you are connected. As we introduce more features that involve groups and circles you can create additional circles to manage your extended social and professional circles. All this from one single app, and while on the move.

How much does it cost to use MOBOW?

All the basic features of MOBOW are free. As we introduce some premium features, we may decide to charge a small fee for the use. However you should note that most features that you will come to like and use on MOBOW will always be free. Note however that you will require a data plan with your current carrier. You are responsible for those costs with your carrier and it is recommended that you get the unlimited data plan.

Is MOBOW safe to use?

MOBOW is very safe to use. All the data going from your phone to the server and back is encrypted.

How can I get onto the MOBOW beta?

If you have an invite code, we invite you to sign in and use the MOBOW client. We are now in a controlled beta and will soon be rolling out to more platforms. Sign up at the website http://www.mobow.com and we will send you an invite code as soon as we roll out. By the way, beta does not in anyway limit the security of your data. We ensure that your data is secure on MOBOW.

What if I don’t like this and want to opt out?

You can opt out at any time. First go into your phone and just delete the MOBOW client. Then log in to your MOBOW account, and select “delete my account’. If not, send us a message with the relevant information via the “contact” page on http://www.mobow.com website. That’s it you are done. Your data will be erased from our servers.

 

If I delete MOBOW from my mobile phone, will I lose my address book?
No. If for some reason, you decide to delete your account with MOBOW and also delete all the MOBOW application data on your phone, please note that we do not delete the native address book on the device.

 

What does it mean “Sync with server”?

Your phone book gets saved on MOBOW’s servers and once that is done, you can sync with the server to get the lasts updates to your address book. Any contact information that has changed the last time since you synced will be updated.

I just got a new phone, How can I get MOBOW and my contacts over to the new phone?

Just install MOBOW by downloading the software, and set up your account information on that new phone and then sync and your new phone is instantly updated with all the information and it’s like you never skipped a beat. (Note that we currently support only the Windows Mobile platform – However we are working hard to add new platforms and will inform you as soon as they are ready).
